The detail
How to evaluate a pest control company honestly
Most pest control reviews tell you how someone felt about a sales call, not whether the treatment worked. That is useful information, but it is not the same as technical competence, and in a region with the specific moisture and termite pressures Hampton Roads has, technical competence is what actually protects your house. So instead of manufacturing quotes we do not have yet, here is what we would ask if we were hiring a pest company for our own home.
Questions worth asking any pest contractor here
What is the wood moisture content under my house right now? A technician who cannot answer with a number from a meter did not measure it.
What species did you identify, and what did you see? "Termites" is not an answer. Eastern subterranean, Formosan, drywood, and powderpost beetles call for different treatments and different urgency — and a company that has not encountered Formosan activity locally may not even think to check for the aerial carton nests that species can build without soil contact.
What conducive conditions did you find, and does my warranty depend on fixing them? Most damage warranties in this region are conditional on correcting moisture and wood-to-ground contact. Get that in writing before you sign anything.
Is your treatment plan a liquid barrier or a bait system, and why this one for my foundation? The right answer depends on your construction, not on what the company prefers to sell.
Who is licensed, and under what category? Virginia regulates commercial pesticide applicators by category. Ask which one covers the work being proposed, and ask to see the certification if it matters to you.
Will the same technician come back if something fails? Route turnover means some companies send a different face every visit, which loses the building history that makes a repeat problem easier to diagnose.
Facts and field notes
What we can tell you honestly right now
- Review count
- Building — we would rather have zero reviews than fake ones.
- Where reviews post
- This page and our public business profiles, unedited.
- What to ask
- Moisture readings, species ID, treatment method, license category.
- Warranty check
- Ask what conducive conditions your damage warranty depends on.
- Technician continuity
- Ask whether the same technician returns for repeat issues.
- How we earn it
- By putting the report in writing before we ask for the review.
The pest industry nationally has a reputation problem with review authenticity, and Hampton Roads is not exempt from it — it is easy to find companies here with dozens of reviews posted in a single week during a promotional push. We think that pattern is worth noticing when you're comparing contractors: a review history that grows steadily over years, with a mix of five-star and three-star feedback and visible responses from the company, tends to be more trustworthy than a perfect five-star average with no negative feedback at all.
We will earn our own review history the same way — one documented inspection at a time, with a written report a homeowner can actually check against what they see happen at their house.

Why it is here
It breeds in artificial containers holding tiny volumes of water — gutters, tarps, plant saucers, tires, toys. Every residential yard in the region supplies them.
